ELEVATOR PITCH

Jasnah Kholin is a scholar-queen who believes power should be more than a birthright. She intends to make her own crown obsolete. Also she's a giant nerd who can and will nerd out, albeit kinda sternly.

“Too many scholars think of research as purely a cerebral pursuit. If we do nothing with the knowledge we gain, then we have wasted our study. Books can store information better than we can—what we do that books cannot is interpret. So if one is not going to draw conclusions, then one might as well just leave the information in the texts. ”

BACKGROUND

Born the daughter of a warlord and raised within rigid Vorin gender norms, Jasnah learned early how to navigate (and exploit) systems of power. She observes tradition when it is useful, bends it when it obstructs her goals, and discards it entirely when it proves false.

She is infamously atheistic in a deeply religious society. This skepticism extends to all systems of belief, including her own conclusions. Jasnah claims adherence to utilitarian ethics, though her application of them is pragmatic rather than dogmatic. And not without contradiction and a light sprinkling of hypocrisy. Her past includes decisions others would find unforgivable, including the commissioning of an assassination attempt against her sister-in-law. And murdering some back-alley cutpurses.

Jasnah is relatively Cosmere-aware thanks to extended conversations with Hoid.

PERSONALITY

Highly rational, but not unfeeling. Jasnah values people who demonstrate intellectual honesty, competence, and the ability to revise their beliefs in the face of evidence. Once trust is earned, her loyalty is fierce and enduring. She is impatient with foolishness. While she often projects certainty, she is not afraid of being wrong.

As an Elsecaller, Jasnah has sworn oaths centered on self-mastery and the pursuit of her full potential. These oaths align with her philosophical commitments: growth through accountability and progress through reflection. She is comfortable acknowledging her errors, provided it leads to adaptation.

She's also deeply paranoid, particularly when it comes to credible (or perceived) assassination attempts.

ABILITIES

Provided she has access to Stormlight, a magical blue-white vapor from her homeworld, Jasnah has access to the following powers. In AUs, PSLs, etc., this can all be nerfed to varying degrees.

Can summon her spren, Ivory, as a sword. Can summon logicspren to create a suit of armour Can use stormlight to heal anything short of a fatal blow to the head.

//Surge of Transportation;
aka Elsegating. Can transfer into and out of the Cognitive Realm, although she's always found returning to be tougher. Could in theory use this ability to worldhop.

//Surge of Transformation;
aka Soulcasting. Can transform one material into another by either coaxing or commanding its constituent parts to change. Some materials are easier than others. Easier with physical contact, but can be done at a distance.

PHYSICAL CONTACT: Uncomfortable with most physical contact unless you're someone she truly appreciates and trusts — at which point, her appetite increases for small gestures like a hand on the arm or a nudge on the shoulder. Please note that in Jasnah's culture, a woman's left hand is considered private. She will actively avoid physical contact with her left hand unless in an established romantic relationship.

SHIPPING: M/F & F/F, ages 25+. Jasnah is canonically asexual (leaning sex-neutral to sex-positive) but could be interested in romance in some situations. She emphasizes relating, engaging, and bonding with her partners on an emotional and intellectual level first and foremost and expresses frustration that past partners have found her cold or too academic when she's attempted to better understand their needs in a relationship. Any ships would require significant CR + slow burn, as she's slow even to make friends (let alone more!)

CONFLICT: Jasnah loves a spirited debate, although she might take it too far. On a similar note, she has a temper and can be quite cruel when it runs away with her. Depending on who ends up suffering the brunt of it, she may or may not feel bad in the aftermath.

VIOLENCE: Sure! She isn't a fighter, but she has some battlefield experience supported by her Surgebinding abilities (see above.) She is the kind of person who doesn't see the point in getting violent unless her intention is to kill. Doesn't mean she's capable of it depending on the circumstances.

BADMOUTHING: Bring it on. She probably deserves it.

Many of the below ideas would be just as fun whether gen or shippy! Also in no particular order.

—Epistolary AU: Long-form letters or shorter, text-like exchanges. Possibly with with an undercurrent of secrecy or impropriety.

—Reading Lessons: literacy is a feminine art in her culture, meaning this could create a subtle taboo dynamic involved in teaching a male-identifying character how to read, etc. Alternatively, rather than full-blown literacy, just teaching another character her language instead.

—Emotion Share/Psychic Link: Shared thoughts, emotions, sensations, pain, pleasure, joy, all of it bleeding between characters.

—False Memory Relationship: A "new" sibling/cousin/best friend appears. Everyone else insists they’ve always been there. One character knows something is wrong, maybe?

—Arranged or Political Marriage: Jasnah must choose a suitor (foreign or Alethi) to secure her throne. Options could include things like your character is a reluctant suitor, your character is trying to help avoid the arrangement, an "I can't marry them I love someone else!" angle, etc.

—Fake Dating: Exactly what it says. Strategic, mutually beneficial, and absolutely doomed to become complicated.

—Forced Proximity: Cramped inns, shared tents, ship cabins, hiding out with no escape
